Noel-Levitz consultant Lewis SanborneDr. Lewis Sanborne offers more than two decades of experience in higher education and enrollment management, particularly in the areas of student retention, assessment, and institutional research.

Dr. Sanborne has consulted with a wide range of institutions, including Seton Hall University (NJ), Lincoln College (IL), Saint Joseph College (CT), Rocky Mountain College (MT), and Concordia University Chicago (IL).

Previous campus experience

Dr. Sanborne served at St. Ambrose University (IA) in a number of positions, including dean of the College for Professional Studies. He was co-coordinator of strategic planning, worked closely with the Assessment Task Force, and was on the university's self-study steering committee for its 10-year accreditation visit. Earlier at St. Ambrose, he served as associate vice president for enrollment and director of institutional research. He was also coordinator of student success programs, including the tutorial program; a learning center supporting first- and second-year courses; orientation; advising; and the first-year experience program.

His efforts helped St. Ambrose University increase first- to second-year retention from 71.5 percent in 1993 to 79.5 percent in 2000. During his last four years at the university, undergraduate persistence rose above 92 percent for fall to spring, and more than 85 percent for spring to fall.

Associations and education

Dr. Sanborne is a member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and CAEL (Council for Adult and Experiential Learning). He holds a PhD in higher education administration from Illinois State University.
