Objective

Strategically review the university’s enrollment base and determine an appropriate direction for continued advancement.  Control the tuition discount rate and proactively identify ways to expand the already successful recruitment and retention efforts.

Action

Utilized predictive modeling, financial aid research, and market research to develop a strategic enrollment plan that identified which student inquiries to target and maximize the impact of financial aid and scholarships. As part of the research and planning process, the university also evaluated recruitment and retention initiatives and developed strategies for sustaining and further improving both areas.

Result

After the first full year of implementing its new plan, Charleston Southern enrolled its largest class ever while controlling its discount rate. In addition, the university focused its retention efforts on a recruit-back program for current students that increased communication and contact throughout the school year.
